Purpose of Domestic Violence Intervention Program
DVIP is a program dedicated to teaching new skills that replace abusive, violent, conflict resolution. The program promotes “zero tolerance” of violent behavior and it is designed for those who have been abusive to their partners.
This program follows the “Duluth Model,” which is a nationally recognized batterers’ intervention program. The program meets the Department of Corrections Administrative Rules or Batterers Intervention Programs for state certification and is listed on Orange and Seminole Counties provider lists. The program also offers Drug/Alcohol evaluations by a Department of Corrections Certified Assessor with a Department of Professional Regulation license and also a Certified Additions Professional.
May be court-ordered.
Goal
To provide participants with information and practical tools to change those values, beliefs and behaviors which have provided the foundation for their use of violence and other methods of abuse.
Course Content
- A minimum of 26 group sessions are required.
- Each small group session is 11/2 hours.
- Communication is maintained between the referral source and program staff. Written status updates can be provided by fax to Court, Probation or Diversion staff.
- Victims are contacted throughout the client’s participation in the program and offered information and referrals as needed. Victim safety is a priority.
Registration
- Students may register at any Florida Safety Council Office throughout Central Florida. A copy of the Court Order is required for registration.
- The cost of the program is based on a sliding scale and payment may be made weekly.
- There is no charge for the intake appointment.
- Separate groups are available for males and females.
This program is offered by Families Against Abuse at our locations, as part of our mission, to promote safety in every phase of American life, including the home.
